Cowboys don't need much to keep them content...uncrowded country, good horses to ride, and a job to do in the time-honored tradition. Pride is a part of it too, and the familiar feeling of just being free.

It is hard for others to understand the cowboy's self-imposed excile from the mainstream of modern life. Even a cowpuncher's pooch knows him better than any one person who is not a part of his world ever will.
